National News: A painful and shocking incident has come to light in the posh Vasant Vihar area of the capital, Delhi. On the night of July 9, around 1:45 AM, a high-speed white Audi car ran over people sleeping on the sidewalk near Shiva Camp. Five people were injured in this accident, including an 8-year-old girl. The injured were immediately admitted to the nearest hospital, where their treatment is ongoing. The condition of all victims is reported to be stable at the moment.

How Did the Accident Happen?

A female eyewitness present near the spot stated that about 15 people were sleeping on the sidewalk when a white Audi car came at very high speed and ran over the sleeping people. After the collision, the driver tried to flee, but a short distance away, the car collided with a truck, causing severe damage to the vehicle.

The police acted swiftly and caught the driver and seized the car on the spot. The accused has been identified as 40-year-old Utsav Shekhar, a resident of Dwarka, who was driving under the influence of alcohol while returning from Noida to Dwarka. Medical reports confirmed that he was intoxicated at the time of the incident.

The police have registered an FIR against him under sections related to negligent driving, attempted murder, and other relevant charges.

Another Blow to the Most Vulnerable Section of Society

This incident once again raises a serious question: When will the safety of the homeless and vulnerable people sleeping on the footpaths of the capital be ensured? Why do the poor and innocent suffer due to the recklessness and intoxicated driving of the privileged? Such tragedies underline the urgent need for stricter enforcement and accountability on the roads.
